Better Now...(Thank Goodness!)

This is a public service announcement.  RUN don't walk to the nearest doctor or pharmacy and GET A PNEMONIA SHOT!

Finally, after two weeks of congestion and barking like a seal, I finally feel human.  Steroids, Antibiotics, an inhaler and prescription cough medicine has at last cured me.  Well, mostly at least.  Still coughing and having plugged ears-but 80% better is still okay with me!  I have had pneumonia many times but this was far and away the worst case I've suffered through.  You would think I had a two pack a day habit!

Happy New Year's Dolls!  We are doing our usual stay in over at Kristin and Bob's.  A few friends, lots of food, champagne and trying to make it till the ball drops.  (and with enough champagne, K and I will throw down our amazing Zumba moves! Perfect!

I'll spare you all my resolutions/intentions for 2020.  Oh, wait..maybe just one resolution.

Next year I WILL get my pneumonia shot!

Stay healthy and have a wonderful New Year's Eve.   XO cough! cough!  XO

Merry Christmas...

Merry Christmas from the beach!  For the first time since 1984, we are celebrating Christmas at our beachhouse.  Yes, the new and improved version actually has room for a full on family celebration and my brother and mom are enroute as we speak.  We couldn't be more excited to have both sides of the family together to eat, drink and be merry.

For the beauty of the beach, the reason for the season, as well as family to celebrate with-I could not be more blessed.  To all of you-my friends and readers,  have the most soul nurturing holiday and may you be blessed with the Holy Spirit.  All love,  Jodi xo

Heavy is the Head...

Hello Darlings.    The poor Jspot is down with a blinger of a cold.  I got a flu shot and hoped I was home free.  But on Saturday I was hit hard with sore throat, cough, and sneezing.  I have to say I am miserable and don't have time for this.  I've used Mucinex, Oregano,  Emergencee,  Nyquil and salt water gargles-all to little avail.  Does anyone have any home remedies to give this bug the Connor McGregor knockout?  Let me know...

Go Loka...

Santa and Mrs. Santa have retired for another year.  WHAT-it's only December 9th., not even actual Christmas yet!  This yearly party is met with the gamut of 'feel's' ranging from anticipation, anxiety, and relief-when we've pulled it off.

Last Tuesday Randy and I hosted our annual R.S. Dale Christmas party.  Bath City Bistro's bar was bustin' at the seams with our employees ready to get their cheer on!  BCB servers and our girl Katie were kept running keeping up with our crew.  Cocktails and a sumptuous buffet got the party started.  Then the games began.  Rounds of Right, Left Center, a guessing game, a reverse raffle and a trivial game got the night rolling.  The action was fast and furious with a final Wheel of Fortune spin and a safecracker game to round out the night.  All kinds of cash and prizes were won and some unlucky person was awarded the annual rubber chicken booby prize. (Not namin' names, GARY!) Needless to say, this party was lit!

It's a fun night and all of Randy and I's organizing and planning went off without a hitch and everyone seemed happy with the outcome.

And I ate far too many sugar cookies before hauling my tired cookies home.  Until next year, Mrs. Claus is dunzo.   Dat Santa doe...xo

Grateful...

It was a perfect dozen that celebrated Thanksgiving with us this year.  Lindsey and Joe from Denver plus Mom Julie as well as my nephews from Traverse City and niece from Ann Arbor.  Add in 2 Yorkies and 3 ducks (those we ate!) and you get the full picture.  We also celebrated Mom's birthday. As always, I am grateful for family and all of their love and support.

But now it starts....Needing to pick up a few things on the way home was a nightmare with Home Depot being a full on madhouse as well as another store we couldn't find a parking space in!  Many houses had lights out and decorated trees were in many windows.  As usual, I am just not ready.  I have actually overheard people say that they just had to pick up a few last minute gifts.  Huh?  Thank goodness I don't shop anymore, I just can't take the madness.  A white elephant gift exchange for an upcoming party is more my speed.  I'll just go downstairs and pick some random goodie and call it good.

So I ask you dear friends, how do you handle the full thrust of  'holiday cheer' that comes before the Thanksgiving turkey cools?

While answering that question, you might want to ponder this one; 'But was everybody really Kung Fu fighting?'  What if?

Have a great week, Dolls!  XOXO

Then There Were Two...

A very wise woman, Reba McEntire-to be exact, once proclaimed, "to succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone."

Well, I think 'ol Reba nailed that one as did the two dolls behind the meat counter at Nino Salvaggios!
I love a man with a sense of humor as well as the confidence to sport a turkey on his head while working at a store with say...200 women wandering about.  Backbone, funny bone and certainly wish bone are all wrapped up with these two hot turkey's!

Hit up Nino's on Hall to get yourself a giggle plus whatever else you need, poultry, pastry or just to check out the Turkey(s!)

Happy Thanksgiving!  Be grateful, laugh a little and good luck with the wishbone.  XO

La Vie En Rose...

A family wedding this weekend found us exposed to some traditions that were totally new experiences for us.  My cousin Carli and her handsome groom, Lupce were joined in matrimony at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Macedonian Orthodox Chapel.  The Chapel itself is among the most gorgeous I have ever seen with detailed gilded paintings of the saints on the walls and ceilings.  There was a cantor that sang all the prayers and verses.  The bride and groom were crowned with grand crowns in a ceremony that involved blessings and kissing of the crowns.  It was unusual, foreign, exotic and very steeped in tradition.   But when it was announced 'You may kiss your bride,'  we knew that it was official.

Downtown at the Masonic Temple, we were greeted with a sumptuous table laden with any type of hors d'oeuvres that you could imagine.  After dinner we were treated to another Macedonian custom that involved the Godfather of the groom, a roasted baby pig, and a parade.  Oh, and money thrown about in hopes of some type of feast payment. A Macedonian Junkanoo-if you will!  I'm not sure, but it was highly entertaining!

Dancing and sharing bottles were the order of the night and the revelry was in full force when we slipped off.

Among the new things we learned, was the commonality that in any language, marriage is about love, family, spirituality and food-in any language.

Congrats to Carli and Lupce!  The best is yet to come!  XOXO

P.S.-how cute is my Mom?

Say it Again...

I love what I am seeing this Veteran's Day.

Recently I noticed that Lowe's has 'Veteran's Parking Only' spots.  How cool is that?  I also saw a barber shop offering free haircuts today.  In Alpena, a local restaurateur gave free meals to customers that served our country.  And in my hometown of Ossineke, my elementary school hosted an 'American hero's on Veteran's Day' program.  This event has been honoring Veteran's for 10 year and includes the children reading poems, singing songs and doling out special gifts- to 30 Vet's!  God bless you all for your thoughtful efforts.

Every year I struggle to write something that expresses my gratitude and respect.  For all of you that did what I never had the guts to do- I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  XO

7th. Heaven...

On Saturday I had the wonderful experience of spending time with some old friends.  As hard as it is to make time to get together-this was a very special event.  Held in a beautiful venue, we were treated to some very angelic vocals.  The food was local and homemade and the desserts were decadent. (As all desserts SHOULD be!)  Warm hugs and reminiscent stories were the order of the day.  Emotions ran high and there were tears as well as much laughter.

Can you guess where I was?  Yep, at a funeral.  Family and friends gathered to celebrate the life of a very loved man and give him the send off he deserved.  It also provides a gathering to share stories, as well as facing our own mortality.  Efforts are made to keep the mood light, but the inevitablitly of death is the commonality that joins us.  The great equalizer.

We all have the time between our birth and death to live a life we can be proud of.  The famous 'Dash' poem reminds us the importance of what we do in the middle that is what we will be remembered for.

I think that funerals are really just parties that celebrate, evaluate, and refocus on how we are doing so far.  Are we kind?  Respectful? Considerate?  Patient?(a hard one for me!)  Compassionate?  I am going to make an effort to use funeral celebrations a time to reset goals for my 'Dash.'  Isn't that the best way to honor someone?  OXOX

The Other Side...

Whoo Hoo-I'm back and feeling all refreshed and rested!  Vacation was filled with sun, sea, laughter and more good food than should be allowed.  And wine-yes there was wine....Sun and sand is sooo necessary for my soul and I feel strong and very blessed to have this time with family and friends.  I have hit the ground running with goals for my yard as well as my house.  It's a good feeling and I have Lisa and Steve to thank. XO

Are you superstitious?  I am-a little.  When I see an ambulance, I always do the sign of the cross and say a little prayer in hopes that my good wishes will be heard and make a difference.  If I see a cardinal, I always think it is a sign that someone from heaven is thinking of me and maybe paying me a visit.  I love it and feel very blessed.  When I spot a penny, I will ALWAYS pick it up, hold it to the heavens, and thank the Lord above for sending me this 'sign.'  I know you may think it's silly, but these little things bring me great comfort-and I love having these perks in my everyday life.

So today, after Zumba class, I spotted this fiver while unlocking Berry Manilow. By chance, I glanced down and saw my little piece of good fortune, nestled in the beautiful fall leaves.  I muse that if pennies are from someone in heaven than a 5spot must be from the whole gang!  How amazing!

As I pulled thru the Tim Horton's drive thru ordering my usual egg white spinach bites and coffee, I pulled out the found fiver and (almost!) paid for the order.  I felt like my breakfast was a treat from my personal angels.  It gave me a smile and again-a smile and a little prayer.  Sigh.....

How cool is that?

Happy Monday and may you all be blessed from angels above.   XOXO

Easy Breezy...

Hello Darling Pumpkins!  The JSpot will be spotted this week on the white sand beaches of Marcho Island!  Yes, I'm going to enjoy a little get-a-way for some fun in the sun-barefoot nation, here I come.  My brother-in-law extraordinaire is celebrating his birthday and Lisa and I are ready to par-tay!

I'll see ya'll next week when I'll be layered in flannel and shivering my cookies off.  Happy Birthday, Steve-we will live it up-Marco style!   XO

Presence...

Happy Indigenous People's Day-as well as Columbus Day!

Growing up in Ossineke, Michigan-it was very common to have 'Indian' names for common places.  After all, Ossineke is an Ojibwa word meaning, 'place of the image stone.'  On the Devil's river, legend says there was a stone that the native's used as a marker to find their way home off of the water.  I have heard that the word has more modern meanings, but I like the old, home town legend.  At our elementary school, one of our ball fields was called 'Pukweegee' which means 'playground of little people.'  The sign marking the field said as much and used a little Indian native boy in the pic.  Probably not the most politically correct thing, but it was meant as an honor and not a slam.  The field on the other side was called 'Shingwak' which means 'playground in the pines.'

We had a roadside attraction called Hayden's Acres and upon entering, you would be greeted by a carved, life size, proud young brave on a horse in full head feathers.  Walking through the woods, various stations depicted all sorts of native life.  Supposedly, these carvings and displays were indicative of how life was lived, originally, on the Devil's River, in Ossineke.

My Grampa Cliff used to threaten us kids by saying he was going to give us back to the Indians.  "Some old squaw will strap you on her back and that'll fix ya!" Not the most P.C. either-that Gramps of mine!  And recently I learned that my (step) Great Grandma was a full blooded Indian.  My Grampa was raised by her, so maybe he knew what the deal was!

At any rate, I hope I haven't offended where I meant to convey pride.  I love my town's history and the fact that I, too, am an Indian-even if it's by proxy!

Have a wonderful fall week, my friends.  XO

Hit the Back...

I love art.  All art.  Anything that anyone created interests me, from amateur to 'pro'fessional works-they give me joy and wonder.  Mt. Clemens is full of art.  Street art in particular, from gorgeous murals to this amazing horse sculpture by Jonathon Bowling.  How our hood got graced by his talent is still unknown to me-even after research.  I know he is from Richmond and specializes in sculptural art.  If I understand correctly, one of his horses has made it to the Kentucky Derby.  I envy his incredible vision and talent.

How sweet is it to be able to drive down a street and be amazed at random works of art?  I'm in awe and I love it.  I've read he has done a mermaid, but I've yet to see it.  (Goals, Baybee!)

Thank you to Jonathon Bowling  for your generosity in sharing your totally cool work that brings a smile to my face.

Have a wonderful, fall week, my lovelies;  and stop and enjoy the art whenever possible!   XO

Swap it Out...

On Sunday four Detroit Lions fans, dressed in their colors and hauled their cookies down to support the Lions on their crazy winning streak.  It is our annual pilgrimage, but this year Kristin and I had an epiphany.  After the drive down in crazy traffic, the expensive parking, the overpriced cocktails, the crowd, the miles we walked, the deafening lack of acoustics and the overall length of the game, (four quarters!) that MAYBE this would be us chickies last game.

As our tradition deems,  Kristin and I lasted all the way thru the first quarter (can you believe there are FOUR?) before making our getaway.  Crowd aversions and the dull roar precipitate low grade anxiety attacks in each of us and a fresh vodka would probable ease the symptoms.  A full cardio workout ensued as we did the 'Rocky in Philly' staircase.  The bathroom lines were only slightly shorter than the drink line.  But we persevered and got both events handled and it was on to walking and shopping.  Finally, we found a table where we could people watch.

Together we made the executive decision.  Next year we would wear our cute outfits at brunch and then catch the game at home while enjoying the Ernst hot tub.  We can NOT-watch the game in comfort while imbibing on cocktails and snacks.  We will leave the logistical hassle to the guys and have dinner waiting when they arrive back.

The older I get, the more I like this idea as do my poor hips.

Wonder if fan gear has Lion's bikini's-for the hot tub section?  Stay tuned, Dolls and oh, wait...
Go Lions!

Hips Don't Lie...

About a month ago, I lamented to Kristin that my hips were "killin' me!"  I felt like an old Labrador with a bad case of dysplasia.  Mornings were the worst as I limped down for coffee.  It was very evident that I had totally overdid it in Zumba class while throwing my hips around.  Evidently, channeling my inner Shakira was NOT the best idea.

But...as the month wore on, the pain increased to an all day throb.  An X-ray later, I was diagnosed with (gasp!) arthritis.  Wait.  Isn't that a thing for 'old' people?  Well, okay...Some gray hair and some crow feet action I will own-but arthritis?  Well, hell.  Whaddya do with that?  I have no real family history and Doc says that I have simply worn them out.  Like too many miles on a leased vehicle, time is up for my poor hips.

This news is a wake up call as well as a check to my mortality.  Apparently, taking care of yourself with boxing, Zumba, sculpting and boot camp were aggravating a condition that childhood gymnastics had started.  Who knew?

So, I will hit up physical therapy, medicate, stretch and just be a little more gentle with myself.

But not shake my hips?  Oh, hell no.  I'll be up front, doin' the damn thing, sweating and smelling my new signature scent-Icy Hot and Pacific Vanilla.

Don't judge the old chick... XO

The Tide is High...

Last Friday was not only the thirteenth, but a full moon, actually a harvest moon-dates that mean different things to different people.  The occurrence of the date with the moon only happens about every twenty years.

A friend that works in a nursing home once told me that the patients are noticeably restless and sometimes irritable. Careful attention must be paid as there is a high incident of  'walk offs.'  (For the record, much of the time I am also restless and irritable, but that's another glass of wine..)

Up north, the wildlife also moves around more, possibly causing a higher number of car/deer accidents.  Once, my sister in law hit a deer on her way to work and then another on her way home!  Poor Paula and poor restless critters.

But the worst is the memory of a certain Friday the thirteenth back in 1980.  My parents got the call all parents dread-my brother had been in a serious car accident.  Steve and two friends were in his Pinto and collided with a train.  The boys swear that the RR crossing lights were not illuminated.  The train hit the drivers side while Steve was driving and dragged them down the tracks until the train could finally stop.   My brother was very beat up and had numerous broken bones.  The others suffered minor injuries.   A total freak accident that now is a local legend.  By the grace of God, we were all spared a Friday the thirteenth tragedy.  I hate train tracks to this day.

On Saturday we stopped at a winery that had two black 'house' cats.  The owner noted that the only bad luck that occurred was when someone accidently spilled a full glass of wine.

At the beachouse, we admired the beautiful harvest moon and the gorgeous illumination of the lake that it provided.  It was perfect and I'm happy to report that not a single glass of wine was spilled.

Have a lucky week, my lovelies!  XOXO

Cadillac Ranch...

For twenty years I saw her, sitting in a glass front garage.  All dressed up with nowhere to go, she sat alone like a child in time out.  What had happened that this little beauty that a 20 year punishment was appropriate?  I often wondered.

But I do know that I squealed in delight when I saw her outside, on the lawn, enjoying the pre-fall sunshine.  Wait, I shrieked, there's the pink caddy!  What was she doing making this star appearance and what could be her story?  Was she possibly the very first Mary Kay car that was awarded for sales of cosmetics?  Was she the inspiration for Aretha or maybe Bruce?  I don't know.

While visions of Tawny Kitaen in a Whitesnake video danced through my head, I chose a more jspot appropriate pose on the hood of the car.  Without the owner in sight, we snapped a few pics that gave her the paparazzi attention that she waited so long for.

And....if my begging pays off, you may see me cruisin' the Keys in pink style!!

Stay tuned!  XO

Anticipation...

Every Memorial Day, Cheryl and I sit at our bonfire and cheer the beginning of summer.  Three long months stretch ahead of us like a long flat highway with no end in sight.  Giddily we dream our usual dreams that include all the delights of the season.  The anticipation is as sweet as a s'more.

Fast forward to this past week when again seated at the fire, we lamented on how fast time flies.  How did it happen?  What did we miss?

Well, for me....nothing!  I've enjoyed every minute of it.  From the new beachhouse progress (slow!) to long beach walks, and naps in the hammock.  I love the BBQ's, yard sales, and farmer's markets.

As fall approaches, there are new things to look forward to.  The changing color of the leaves as well as the heavenly scent of them burning.  Cool nights where we pull our lawn chairs a little closer to the bonfire. Harvest moons, Halloween, Thanksgiving, caramel apples and polar fleece-these things are also to be looked forward to.

I try to live in the moment and enjoy each day for what it is.  Life is short and precious and there's no time to waste or wish away.  The good stuff is everyday and the other goodies will get here soon enough.

The song I love says it best-"These are the good old days...."

A special thank you to my sissy-in-law, Cheryl who thoughtfully made a toast to her nephews, Travis and Dane, on Overdose Awareness Day.  Always alive in our hearts.  XOXOXO

Heart of Stone...

Welcome to my week of wonderment.
Note these little beauties I spotted in the parking lot of my gym.  What do you suppose the story on these can be?  Did the person find a better pair of shoes and just traded out his slippers.  Instead of using his garbage to dispose of them, maybe he just ditched them in the parking lot.   Maybe he's working out in his tennis shoes and will change back into the slippers later?  Hmmm..I wonder...
And later, while strolling on the beach, I saw this darling heart of stones.  I wonder if the artist is in love or maybe just in love with the beach-as I am!  Either way, it made me smile.
And lastly, at Pac's Backyard, the chalkboard gave this great piece of advice.  As I pondered it I wondered;  could I go 24 hours without complaining-even once?  I have to believe that practicing positivity would surely be life changing.  I plan to make a conscious effort.  It can't hurt, right?

Have a great week and enjoy the simple wonders around you! XO

Party Crowd....

Good morning, Starshine!  How's your week going?  Here's my riveting update...

Last Friday, with our hubs fishing in PANAMA, two wild and crazy chicks wasted no time hitting up MacRay's for the annual neon pool party event.  Fluffed and sporting our neon (sort of!) we were ready to slay....  However; in normal Jodi and Kristin style, first we needed some salmon and wine.  Full and emboldened, we decided that the party was lame and hauled the show down the road to Bumpers where the boating crowd is it's own special party!   And it did not disappoint. The security guard noticed us jockeying for a parking spot and kindly assisted us and escorted us up to the door, promising to guard 'Berry Manilow' with his life.

A packed crowd and rockin' band were in full force as we elbowed our way to the bar.  As semi-regulars, the bar chickie quickly handed us our vodka.  We located our friends, Tom and Bob who generously made room for us at their table.  We caught up with gym buds as well as old friends-Bobby and Julie!  Boats were coming and going with more revelers and even some cute dogs to fawn over-and it doesn't get any better than that.

Where did these shots come from?

A gorgeous sunset and a full moon signaled the end of the party for us and we headed out to Berry.  It was 10 p.m. and two party animals were done.

Ten o'clock?  We are such wimps!

Party on Kristin....Party on Jodi!

Pass at Me...

On Friday morning I hauled my cookies out of bed early to get a jump start on the 'The Yard Sale Trail.'  In case you are unaware the YST is 150 miles of yard and garage sales that start in New Baltimore and end in Sebawing, Michigan.  I had my gear for the weekend packed, my waist wallet strapped on with plenty of cash.  I had a large Tim Ho's iced coffee in hand as well as a packed lunch and a full gas tank.  Rock and Roll hottchiecoo!

My pursuit of nautical antiques and such started in Port Huron and proceeded north.  I perused many sales on the lakeside and risked life and limb crossing M25 to check out the other side.  Many sales later, I had purchased 2 burlap bags to reupholster a bench and an old wooden puzzle that had the states and their capitals outlined.  My grand total was $2.00.  Many sales later,  I pondered cool things from used deodorant (what the hell?) to used Harley Davidson motorcycles.  Lots of interesting stuff, but nothing that truly rang my bell. Not even a single velvet Elvis!

By the time I hit Lexington, I was ready for lunch.  I pulled over at a beautiful roadside stop and enjoyed my packed goodies at a picnic table in the sun, with a view of the lake. Pure Michigan, I tell ya!

I proceeded on and finally gave up.  I didn't need any cheap knock off anything's and I was ready to chill out at the cottage.  It was a fun day and a learning experience-both in resale as well as humanity.

Now if I can only find a bench to use those cool coffee sacks!  Have a great week my Lovelies! XO

Room to Follow...

Happy August!!

As many of you know, Randy and I's dream beach house is finally being built.  Years of planning and dreaming is being realized as we speak.  It's very exciting as well as a giant hassle.  There are so many details and decisions to be made.  And of course, it's taking much longer that expected.

The new digs are on the property we already own and have enjoyed for years.  Our old beach house was tiny-440 square feet of paradise with a 550 square foot deck.  We actually had a 'tiny house' before it was a thing.  It has been our place of escape and solace, and we loved it.  BUT, it was time.  We are ready for a little more wiggle room plus insulation and a real kitchen.  And closets!  I will now have an extra bedroom and guest bath for family and friends.  The new modern style is more of a reflection of our personal taste. One more BUT here.....we had to demo the old place.

On a chilly day in June, Randy, Mark and I stood by while our little haven was knocked over and scooped up into a truck.  We had already rescued all of the personal items that will be used in the new place.  So, when it crumbled, I was totally okay.  That little place did what it was supposed to do and I'll never forget the good times.  As a person not attached to things, I will always have my fond memories.

So onward and upward.  The extra room and comfort of the new place will probably have us spending a little more time up north.  You know I love the beach, so that's cool with me.

Cheers to the little beach shack and may she rest in peace.  Have a wonderful week, my pretties!

Pull up...

For 27 years, Randy I have been boating in the thumb and we are just now getting around to visit the locally famous rock.  I've heard stories and have seen pictures and on Sunday we got to see the real thing.

Yes, I have finally turned up at Turnip Rock!  And it's all that it has been cracked up to be.  A giant rock in more or less the shape of a turnip is parked up at the tip of the thumb in Port Austin, Michigan.  It is a favorite destination for photographers as well as kayaker's and we witnessed at least 75 colorful boats paddling about.  Sunbathers and other Sand Bar Sunday celebrators were out in full force on this day where the sky was Caribbean blue and the water was Keys aqua.  The water temperature was 74 degrees, so even my wimpy self got in and enjoyed a swim and a walk on the hard sand bottom.

Without sounding too much like a PSA, if you get the chance, visit Turnip Rock and see this hidden jewel.  It is only accessible by water, but totally worth the effort it may take to get there.

Peas, lettuce recommend if you carrot all, to make a date and beet feet to Turnip Rock.  Honey Dew it-it won't kale you. Just don't (en)dive off the rock!  I've bean there and I promise it will ring your bell (pepper!)

Have a wonderous week, from this giant cornball!  xoxo

She Thinks My Tractors Sexy...

Yes, my brother-in-laws tractor is indeed sexy!  But I'll tell you what else is sexy-a 80 degree afternoon spent cleaning up our beach.  Burning brush, picking up sticks and weeds and raking the shoreline.  Sexy was plunging into the surprisingly warm waves of Lake Huron and rinsing the dirt off ourselves. Enjoying a cold beer and a hot shower.  Tucking into a great steak at a new restaurant with Randy, Mark and Cheryl.  Indulging in chocolate chip cheesecake (say that one fast!) with Ghirardelli sauce.  Going to bed and sleeping like a baby only to wake up to coffee and sore muscles.

Feeling empowered while viewing our efforts on the cleaned up beach?  Now THAT is sexy!

Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On!

I count on Yahoo news to keep my abreast on all that's shakin'.  And apparently last week on Brighton Beach there was a whole lotta shakin' goin' on.

Seems that a man and a woman were having sex on a crowded beach.  The article gave us the mental image with very few details-.EXCEPT the most important thing...THE WOMAN WAS HOLDING A CAN OF LAGER.  Huh?  We already know she was naked and on her back but HOLDING A CAN OF LAGER was a detail that completed the picture.  Don't leave us hanging without expounding on this important tidbit!  They could have easily continued the story by giving us the exact brand and ounces of said beverage.  Import or domestic?  Was the can encased in a colorful coozie?  Maybe a clever 'Sex on the Beach' logo?   Was it was a lo-cal beverage because she surely wants to look her finest while having sex in public while HOLDING A CAN OF LAGER!!  Did she manage to not spill any lager and did she stop for a few sips while gettin' busy?

It kills me that there were no follow up details-such maybe visit from the police and a possible arrest or two?  Maybe a couple of new names on the sex offenders list?

Sheesh..the things that qualify as 'news' these days.  If you know how this epic ended up, tell me, please.  This inquiring mind wants to know!

Have a fantastic week and stay cool!  XO

Raise your Glass...

How to maximize a July 4th. holiday that already includes, BBQ's, bonfires, boating, beer and BOOM BOOMS?

Well, may I suggest piling into a giant floating pink flamingo?  Inflated, launched and named 'Karen' (for reasons I cannot share-this is a family blog!), she was ready to host the party.  Yep, on a perfect sunny day, we all moved the party to a giant bird that could be seen a mile away-we checked!  Tinkled pink just to be together, we toasted friendship, family and fun.

Pinkies up and cheers to the red white and blue.  And don't forget about the pink!.  Karen's the name and floatins her game.   Happy July, Dollfriends!

Barracuda...

Man, how time flies…. Seems just like yesterday, (43 years ago!) on a 90 degree day in June, amidst puddles of sweat, we squirmed impatiently waiting to receive our 'walking papers.'  We threw our caps in the air and our robes in the return bin eager to get on with the big plans for our immediate future.  Bolting to Joni's Plymouth Barracuda, we cranked up a Heart song by the same name and headed over to the Sandie's for a quick dip.  We were young and free with not only the summer, but our whole lives ahead of us. But now, a skinny dip was in order with a bonfire later and most likely some Boone's Farm to boot.  It was the Bicentennial year and we were graduated and free to drink, vote, gamble.  Adults we were, and life was good.

On Sunday we celebrated our dear friend Lexi, with a fabulous party on a perfect day.  The kids tolerated us and our stories of our own launching into a world without the insulation of high school.  But the times have changed...I feel sorry that the innocence we had seems to be missing in the world that these kids have to embrace.  Their lives seem easier yet somehow harder.  Does that even make any sense?  Social media and life pressures adds a whole new color to their lives and I would not want to trade places with any of them.

Congrats, dear darling girl.  We are proud of you and can't wait to see what the future brings you.  The world is your oyster, and you can be anything you want to be.

And me? I'm just happy being old and having fond memories of the Sandie's and Boone's Farm.  Ahhhh, those were the days...

Have a great week. XO

Maybe it's Time...

Under the #whatthehellwasithinking....

My Mom and my sister, Lisa had a garage sale last weekend.  Yep.  Please do not judge my mental capacity based on this decision.  I have that assessment covered.

We are all a little crazy.  And so are the shoppers.  I was asked THREE times if I had any albums.  Ummmm….no, not since the eighties!

After a massive closet purge plus lots of items from my Ebay store, I thought it would be a great way to make a few bucks and continue my declutter.  These items were simply 'not sparking any joy' for me and it was hoped someone else could feel the joy.

The sale was to be had at my Mom's so we hauled the goods up and did a makeshift closet in her garage.  We sorted and organized.  We priced and displayed.  We took out an ad and posted signs with balloons.  It looked like a freakin' Macy's-if Macy's was clean and organized.

Friday the weather was perfection and sales were brisk.  Saturday was very quiet and we closed shop early.  All in all, financially it was worth the effort-mentally, not so much.  This little exercise in humanity has me exhausted.

Thanks to my Mom for hosting this lunacy.  I promise you, Mom, baring another break from reality-we won't do it again any time soon.  Have a great week, y'all.   XO

Shoulda Known Better...

For your amusement and amazement today I would like to share an experience I had while purchasing a simple futon.

After a futile local search, I went online to order the perfect piece.  The look of the futon was right plus the price point was perfect and I need extra sleeping space for the cottage.

So, I call to place my order.  Yes, the futon is in stock for advertised price.  "Okay, you realize that the drawers pictured are extra.  Do you still want them.?"  Yeah, I guess-thought they were built in.  "Would you like to add a mattress?"  Well, duh...I thought it came with.  Add one in, please.  "No you don't want the one pictured-it's like sleeping on a paper towel."  Uh, okay, I'll take the 'better' one. "Would you like a cover for the mattress?"  Oh, the one pictured isn't included?  "No, click here to see options."  Okay.  I'll take the blue and white striped cover.  "Did you want the stripes?  They are extra."  Huh?  "Yes, the stripes are custom piping."  Sheesh.... I'll take it.  "You realize that with the thicker mattress you will need an extra thick cover and it's an additional cost."  FINE.  "Now all you need is the grips that keep the mattress from slipping."  Sure, throw them there-Lord knows, I don't want anyone sliding off the futon.

Can you believe this?  By then I was so exhausted, that I just purchased at almost double the price advertised.  What a scam and I am the ultimate sap.  In all my years of retail, I never learned the art of the upsale to that degree.

So please, someone plan to come and stay at the cottage and sleep on that futon!  I can guarantee you won't slip off!

Have a wonderful week, Dolls.  I'll just be here....bein' a sap!  XO

Final Form...

You know....it's the little things.

How much smoother would life be if some of the small irritants disappeared and were never given another thought?

Passwords.  Can we talk about passwords.   Am I the only person who has issue with this?  10 accounts that I would prefer have the same password, keep checking and making me 'update' them for 'my safety.'  Even with noting the new one, I still routinely get locked out and have to come up with yet another password.  I have nothing sensitive and prefer NO password at all.  We have not had our identity stolen since before all this mess started.  Please.  Don't protect me.

Could just once could I rip off Saran Wrap or Tin Foil with a clean line and NOT cut my finger on that stupid metal strip that is barely fastened down.  A bleeding digit doesn't do much to aid my mood while attempting  to be a domestic goddess.

You know what else would help?  How about if we talked about books with the same fire as everybody droning on about Game of Thrones.  Geesh!  Next time someone asks you if you watch Game of Thrones, bore the life out of them with your current reading list.  Works every time.

Two lines of service open at the grocery store and 10 lines for self serve.  No, I don't want to serve myself unless there is a sizable discount for my scanning efforts.  I never once have gotten thru the process without a person coming over to void something.  I say we all revolt and make this madness stop.

The fact that my various (9!) hair appliances do not have retractable cords and no matter how carefully I wrap them up, the irons and such lay in a giant jumble at the bottom of the drawer.  Please-this seems to be a reasonably easy fix.

By now you are thinking that I need a nap and/or a glass of w(h)ine.  And you would be correct.
See you next week when I don't have the Rainy Days and Mondays crabbiness.

My precious Son.

Dane Jacobs

Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly
into the mystic.

I love and miss you every minute with every breath I take.
All love, till we are together again.

Worth It...

Happy Memorial Day.  Today I send thoughts and prayers to all who have sacrificed and served so we may have the freedom to celebrate this life we have.  Their bravery and dedication gives me pause as I know I NEVER would have had the guts to serve.  Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

Magic Man...

Are you ready to be rocked?  Do you believe in magic?  Be at a few choice bars in the Keys and wait until just after sunset.  It's then that the magic happens.

Welcome to the rockin' magic of Micheal Trixx.

I am usually bored stiff by traditional magicians. Too much fanfare and not enough finish.
Not so with the fabulous Michael Trixx.

With a sold rock and roll background, he uses music to punctuate his fabulous show.  The very sight of Michael with his top hat, waist coat and eyeliner along with blasting KISS music have you both riveted and amazed.  His connection with the audience-especially the children in front row, is immediate.  Michael tosses his hair and bugs out his eyes along with a very fiendish smile as he sprays confetti out of nowhere.  He raises and trains the birds in his show and gently kisses them each time they provide a "trixx"  I have seen Michael too many times to count, and guests of ours in the Keys are always treated to his show.  And he never disappoints.   My favorite act is The Egg Man when Michael pull whole eggs out of his mouth.  About 12 of them.  You have to see it to believe it.

If you get the chance-do not miss his show.

You WILL believe in magic.

Here Without You...

Mother's Day is complicated for me.. First let me say that I had a wonderful weekend with my Mom as well as the rest of my family.  I am fortunate to have my Mom to honor on Mother's Day.

But I admit that since I lost my only child, the day now makes me cringe.  Just a little.  It's hard to ignore all the fanfare that used to be so normal for me.  Social media inundates me with mother's being well wished and honored.  The Mommy Hole in my heart throbs and bleeds deep as I remember the love I was always shown on Mother's Day by Dane.  It's hard enough to re-identify myself and this day is the one that reminds me that my natural instinct to my child has no place to go now.  I am uncomfortable and I know it makes others uncomfortable, too.  There still are no words to comfort my loss.  This, plus the fact that society still does not know how to face the loss of a child.
But I smile, blink back tears and forge on.  My reality and future are still very shattered but I am trying hard to pick up the pieces and figure out who I am now.

Gifts from Randy, Niece Extraordinaire Nicole and even Hazel my kitty, lovingly feted me with cards, roses and gifts.  Their thoughtfulness warms my heart and helps me find some joy.

There will never be the warm, bear hug and smacking kiss that re-affirmed my Mother role.  It's a private role now-shared just between Dane and I.  I still tell him that I loved him more than life and thank him for the experience of being his Mommy.

To all the Angel Mom's missing their Angel Children, I understand and feel your loss and pain.

I'm Your Captain...

Ladies and gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking...

On behalf of my wingmen, Randy and Hazel, welcome to the road trip home.  Islamorada to Harrison Twp. with two hotel scheduled stops along the way (Hey! We know we are wimps!) with the estimated touchdown home by Saturday assuming the tailwind is good.  I have booked 'first class' accommodations for the ride and will have my 'softee' and pillow at the ready and the massaging, heated seats on.

As the 2019 Sloth, Indulgence and Debauchery Tour wraps up, Randy and I will look back fondly on the memories we have made.

We hosted 15 (I think) guests as well as hosting many other work customers.  I had the privilege of visiting Marco Island and then having my Mom and sister here.  We spent hours and hours boating and fishing and then eating a ton of fresh caught.  We 'discovered' a new Tiki Bar and I met some stars of  The Deadliest Catch-Erik and Rico Suave'.  We stayed up late-sometimes-and slept in late, too.  I actually threw two cocktail parties!  We did some updating on our bedroom including paint (thanks Mom and Lisa!) and new furniture and artwork.  I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

As usual, I am ready to come home and get back on a realistic schedule of sorts.  I miss my friends, Berry Manilow, my gym, and Bath City Bistro.

Till next year, goodbye Keys and Hello Michigan!  I can hardly wait. XO

Someday Dream...

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter.  Although my heart is up north with my family, the Keys celebration is verrry cool.  I love the symbolism of Easter and the story of Jesus appearing to the non believers.  I always feel relieved to realize that his suffering is over and look forward to the fresh, renewed faith that it inspires.  Easter is not about eggs, bunnies, and ham for me.  Rather, it's about family, love, strength and faith.  I pray for the ease of all of these things as well as peace, compassion and forgiveness for all-it's truly the reason for the season.

Love from the Sandbar Bunny! xo

Ave Maria...

It's with a heavy heart that I follow the details of the tragic fire at Notre Dame Cathedral.  It has been a dream of mine to attend Mass and view the art at this icon, on my 'someday' visit to Paris.

Much like the changed skyline in NYC, I can only guess that the skyline in Paris, too, is forever changed.   Unlike NYC, at Notre Dame there has been no death or injuries and all of the art and iconery is intact.  Thank God.

The question of religion as a formal practice has been pondered for years.  Most churches are experiencing a lack of vocations as well as attendance in the masses.  I cannot totally explain this trend, but I view it as just another way our society is changing.  As a child, I received all the sacraments and had a solid religious background.  As a divorced and remarried woman, I have had to bend my own rules to remain a Catholic.  I strongly identify with Mary the Mother of Jesus and collect rosaries.  But I rarely attend mass, and I can't truly explain why.  When I DO go-with my Mom, the ceremonial celebration washes over me in a way that is as familiar as my morning shower.  It is comforting as well as humbling.  I remain reverent.

As the holiest week in the Catholic church begins, I will pray for the grieving Parisians.

Can't Stop the Feeling!....

Meet my sister from another mother!  Did you ever just 'click' with another couple?  We have lots of good friends but there is always room for more!  Monica and Doug are our 'March' neighbors, but we really just got to know them better this year.  We have plenty in common and are all fun lovin', boatin', foodie fools!  AND..BONUS...they live in Michigan!  We look forward to hooking up back in the mitten.  How cool and wonderful is that?

In other 'news', is anyone else having the feeling that someone is listening in on our conversations?  Lately, it seems that some things I say prompts an ad for a similar thing.  For example, if I say Nordstrom Rack, ads appear in my facebook feed and email offering sales or whatever!  It's a little disconcerting to say the least.  I know I'm a little slow with the 'Alexa/Hey Google' thing but it just creeps me out a little that 'someone' is listening.  Anybody know anything about this phenom and are  you comfortable with it?

Heading to Key West today with friends, Tom and Jen-a day that always promises a good time.

Have a fabulous day and I hope you have friends that make you feel blessed.  It's simply the best!

P.S. I'm so lonesome for my workout buddy!  K? Are you there?  XOXOXXOXO

Ship of Fools...

Happy April Fools Day!

I have to admit; this day has absolutely no significance for me.  I  simply do not have the spunk or creative energy to fool anyone any more.  As a child, I would plan ways to fool my siblings and be at the ready for the tricks they had ready for me.  Later, Dane would delight in fooling my by pointing out that there was an elephant/giraffe/monkey or whatever in the yard.  I would have to look out the window, and be 'fooled' every time, while he shrieked with laughter.

I love watching and hearing others stories of foolery-specially Ellen DeGeneres who is the queen of such nonsense.   It's all yours girl, so get at it!

However; one of my very all time favorite quotes is one by Alexander Pope:  "Fools rush in where  Angels fear to tread."  The quote has been speculatively pondered and it's meaning has many different interpretations.  Personally, because I tend to act first and think later, it totally hits home with me.  I like to think that my impulsive nature ( maybe I'm a fool?) as a risk taker and chance maker is fun and exciting.  Jumping into situations with both feet can be 'foolish' or wonderful.  Who's to say?

Here's something I can say for sure:  3 chickies had a ball cruising the ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.  Turquoise water and a cobalt sky is beauty that has no compare.  Pina Colada's and the sun in our faces. Tomfoolery DID abound, as we celebrated the last few days of my Mom's vacation.

Hope you enjoyed some type of foolery that brought a smile to your face today.  XO

Your Peace...

Greetings from Marco Island and more specifically Tigertail Beach!  My Mom, sister Lisa and I are enjoying a ‘girls vacation’ and loving every moment of it.  Lazy beach walks, shopping till we drop, and happy hour(s) are the events that pack our days.  Mom’s 80th, birthday celebration is in full force.   My sister is hosting this half of the party and then we are taking the show to the Keys on Wednesday.  We are having a wonderful time sitting around reminiscing stories from our childhood and it, is very interesting how differently we remember things.

It’s the perfect environment for the holiday that we planned.  I am having a wonderful time and feel lucky and blessed to be able to share this time with Mom and Lisa.  With the quintessential sand in our shoes and shell in our pocket, we are happy and smiling.

Have a wonderful week.  XO
