For 27 years, Randy I have been boating in the thumb and we are just now getting around to visit the locally famous rock. I've heard stories and have seen pictures and on Sunday we got to see the real thing.
Yes, I have finally turned up at Turnip Rock! And it's all that it has been cracked up to be. A giant rock in more or less the shape of a turnip is parked up at the tip of the thumb in Port Austin, Michigan. It is a favorite destination for photographers as well as kayaker's and we witnessed at least 75 colorful boats paddling about. Sunbathers and other Sand Bar Sunday celebrators were out in full force on this day where the sky was Caribbean blue and the water was Keys aqua. The water temperature was 74 degrees, so even my wimpy self got in and enjoyed a swim and a walk on the hard sand bottom.
Without sounding too much like a PSA, if you get the chance, visit Turnip Rock and see this hidden jewel. It is only accessible by water, but totally worth the effort it may take to get there.
Peas, lettuce recommend if you carrot all, to make a date and beet feet to Turnip Rock. Honey Dew it-it won't kale you. Just don't (en)dive off the rock! I've bean there and I promise it will ring your bell (pepper!)
Have a wonderous week, from this giant cornball! xoxo
